Cat Traps

For those residents experiencing difficulties with cats straying onto their land and causing a nuisance, Council has cat traps available for loan.   These traps are basic cage traps.  Food is placed on the plate or hook inside the cage.  When the animal steps on the plate, or disturbs the food on the hook, the door of the trap closes behind them.  Council then collects the trapped cat for impoundment.

Please note:  Council does not issue cat traps for the purpose of trapping possums.  Possums are a protected native animal and a permit is required for trapping.  Please refer to Living with Possums for more information.

Cat traps may be borrowed from any of Council’s Administration Centres at Calliope, Boyne Island and Mt Larcom.  Residents are requested to telephone the relevant administration centre prior to calling in, to check on trap availability.   Traps can be loaned for up to 2 weeks and are free of charge for Shire residents.  Extensions to loan periods may be granted if there is no waiting list.  Please contact Council’s Community Services Section on (07) 4975 8136 to discuss cat trap loans.
