Community Centre Planned for Calliope
Calliope Shire Council has resolved to move forward with plans to provide the Calliope community with a community centre.
With the recent residential growth in Calliope township, Council is keen to see additional public space available for community activities and functions.
Council is planning to achieve this additional space through converting its existing library/development services building to community use. The Calliope library will remain as part of the community centre complex, with the remaining two thirds of the building converted to community use.
At this stage it is anticipated that the fully air-conditioned building will provide space for:-
- a large function room with adjoining kitchen;
- a community meeting room; and
- a second large room with adjoining kitchen for arts, crafts and other community activities.
The existing carparking facilities will also be expanded as part of the project, to provide 50 new carparking spaces to support the new use of the building. Council will meet with community groups prior to the building being fitted out, to obtain community input into the redevelopment project.
The community centre project has commenced and is due to be completed by July 2008..
